Matt Smith has been the Superintendent of Griffin Technology Academies ("GTA") in Vallejo since 2010. GTA uses a multi-tier RTI program, extensive student technology, and a faculty-based PLC culture to prepare students for college success, and over 90% of GTA graduates are accepted into 4-year colleges. Since 2015 MIT middle and high schools have won six CDE Gold Ribbon awards, four “America’s Best High Schools” bronze awards from US News and World Report, and a national “Schools to Watch” middle school award.

Prior to working at MIT Academy, Matt was a middle and high school administrator in the Bay Area, including Martinez and New Haven school districts, and prior to that taught middle school in Oakland for ten years. Matt has masters’ degrees from Alliant University and from Saint Mary’s College of California.
